    Happy Summer Solstice!!

    Observations today from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    54 harbor seals

    no juvenile ravens seen, parents present

    At Saunders Reef:

    two osprey

    one pelagic cormorant

     

     

     

     


  • Tuesday, June 18, 2024

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    77 harbor seals

    14 brown pelicans flying north

    the raven  nest is now empty with no signs of the juveniles; parents are present

    At Saunders Reef:

    2 osprey

     


  • MONDAY, JUNE 17, 2024

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    No whales seen at either site

    Unlimited visibility with some wind and whitecaps

    AT PAL:

    74 harbor seals

    The raven’s nest was empty today. We observed the two parent ravens with two of their offspring standing on the cliff opposite where their nest is located.

    14 brown pelicans flying north

     

     


  • SUNDAY, JUNE 16, 2024

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula 

    We wish all Fathers of every species a very joyful Father’s Day!!

    No whales seen today

    78 harbor seals

    1 adult bald eagle

    Two adult ravens; the largest chick flew off its nest and stood with his or her mom for a bit on the bluff;  three other chicks remained in the nest

    1 charismatic raccoon

    Less windy today with better visibility, approximately 4-5 miles out


  • THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2024

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse Peninsula and from Saunders Reef

     

    No whales seen at either site

    persistent winds. whitecaps, and spray greatly limiting our visibility to less than 2 miles

    At PAL:

    50 harbor seals

    1 great blue heron

    2 adult ravens tending to their 4 large chicks

    8 brown pelicans
